Less than a year ago my parents moved to Elmo Utah. If you don't know where that is don't worry most people don't! It's about a little over an hour east from Spanish Fork.
This summer has come and gone for us! It was a ton of fun! The 4 of us left Thursday night and drove out to Elmo on July 7th. We drove to Wells and got a room at the Motel 6 so we could get a little sleep. That didn't quite work out the best. Let me just say this was Scarlett's first experience sleeping in a big bed with me. She was horrible. She wouldn't go to sleep. She kept jumping up and down, squirming, saying hi to Josh and Payton in the other bed, and was just loving the freedom. I think it took her over and hour to finally settle down and fall asleep. I did not wake up refreshed thats for sure. We left early the next morning and we were supposed to meet my family in Salt Lake City so we could all go to the airport and pick up Elder Cambra (Mal's brother Josh), but unfortunately because of the volcano eruptions in Chili they were not allowing any flights to leave Argentina. Josh was supposed to go from Paraguay to Argentina then into the US, but that didn't work out. Instead he was not able to get home until 5 days later.
We drove through Salt Lake and headed to Elmo for a few days until Elder Cambra would get home Wednesday afternoon. Stef, Dawson, Sofia, Danny, Jacie, and Jared also had to change their plans so they came to Elmo to hang out with us.
We had a fun time in Elmo. Of course anytime my sister and I get Scarlett and Sofia together was have to dress them alike.
We were not quite sure what to do all weekend as a family. Most of us had never been to my parents new place so Friday we spent the day seeing all the amazing sites. (wink) We drove into Price and did some shopping at...Walmart, JcPenny's, Payless Shoe Store, Kmart, and other odd little small town stores.
Us women were all ready for our big adventure out. We did not plan to all match, it just happened that way.
Scarlett and Grandma
We all met for lunch in Helper. It was a really yummy little sandwich shop. It was right next a grass area and a gazebo so we ate our lunch outside.
Guess who this is? If you thought it was Josh you are correct! Josh insisted on finding himself a whole cowboy get-up as he calls it. He fit right in!
The kids played out in the little pool. They had fun splashing. At one point they convinced my parents to put Calvin the little dog into the pool. He didn't love that. Payton thought it was hilarious though.
Saturday night we went to a rodeo. I can't remember the town it was it, but it was about 25ish minutes from my parents place.
Josh all dressed in his get-up for the rodeo. He blended in just right.
Scarlett loves to drink anything that is not hers. She found this sippy cup of Sofia's and had to have it. My little clepto.
Stefanie and Sofia
Hinton family.
Durring a part of the rodeo they called all the kids to come out onto the dirt area. They had them all line up at one end and at the other end they let a bunch of chickens loose and the kids had to try and catch them.
Payton is in the black sweatshirt next to the girl in the light pink jacket.
Payton was very excited about being able to go out there and chase some chickens, but for some reason once they said go all the other kids ran and he just walked slowly around. Josh tried to get him to go chase the chickens, but he just wouldn't move fast at all. After it was over I asked him why he didn't chase after the chickens and he said that there were too many kids. Oh brother! That's Payton for you. It didn't go down the way he wanted/thought it would in his mind.
We had to take a picture of this. Josh holding Sofia on his lap and she was actually happy. My husband is not one to hold his little nieces or nephews. He likes when they are bigger and he can mess around with them.
Payton loved playing with the cat. This cat is still a kitten so you can get her to play with just about everything.
Each night we would walk down to the post office and Payton always insisted that we bring Calvin. The post office is about a block and a half away.
Scarlett being cute!
One of the days while my parents were working and we were still waiting for Wednesday to come, we took the kids to a park. We figured they would enjoy the freedom and we wanted to drive around a little and see what was around. I think we found this park about 20 minutes from my parents in some little town can't remember the name.
The kids loved it. The town is so small that before we went to the park we were in search of getting something for lunch. Our only option was a Subway that was inside a gas station. Quite small if you ask me.
Scarlett about to tempt the slide
Typical weather in Utah is you get random thunder storms and rain every so often that comes in for a short time and then its sunny again. It never really got cold, but it would rain pretty good for less than an hour.
Josh and I both agreed that living out where my parents do is a whole different life than here in California. It's a lot slower pace, people wave at anyone and everyone, lots of little stores, dirt roads in some places, some sidewalks, lots of open land, lots of people have all types of animals, the people are definitely not all consumed with worldly living they are quite simple, while driving you see lots of dead animals on the ground, they do not have 4 lane freeways, there is no traffic, most people own a truck, and my list could keep going on and on. We found all these differences thought how weird, but really it was quite nice. I don't know that I could live that far away from big department stores but I would love to live the simple, slower paced life and have a place to live that I don't feel like I am right on top of my neighbors. Property would be amazing! Over all our few days in Elmo were a blast! We can't wait to go and visit again.
