Las Vegas Part 2: Dad's GIFT

The ULTIMATE gift given in the Cambra family this year was to DAD! The gift was the thrilling experiences of driving a race car 8 laps on the professional track in Las Vegas. He basically had to sign a ton of papers and had to sit through a thorough class explanation of how the driving experience would go. We ALL were so excited to be able to be there and watch this AWESOME experience!
All suited up in his jumpsuit. Josh, Danny, Jacie, and Mom went with him early and the rest of us showed up an hour later. We didn't want the kids to be waiting for ever.
Mom and Dad
Dad with one of the various types of cars they have out on the tracks
Josh, Payton and Scar awaiting the big moment!
Payton, Scarlett, Danny, and Mom. We did a little bit of waiting once we got there, but not that much!
Brother Josh, Josh, Scarlett, Danny, Jacie, Mom, and Stef. We brought food for these guys since they headed over to the race track early with Dad.
The group that my dad was with. They got their finally instructions in the pit and then the fun began!
Sofia just couldn't stay awake for the event!
Stef, Mom, Josh, Dawson, Mal, Dad
Dad was number 9 on the list so we got to watch a few people from his class go out. It was very exciting.
Right before grandpa's turn we made sure to get a picture of Payton with Grandpa
Waving to us as we cheer him on! This was seconds before he got into the car. Just a quick explanation...
Each student got to drive in their own car, no one else was in the car with them, they had to follow a pacer car around the track, they had to be 3 car lengths behind the pacer car (if you saw a green light on the pacer car's bumper that meant speed up you can get closer, if you saw a yellow light on the pacer car's bumper that meant slow down your too close), the max speed anyone would get up to was 130mph, everyone had the option to upgrade at a discounted rate (the upgrade included 10 more laps and going 135-140mph).
Getting into the car. They take the steering wheel out and you have to climb through the window just like the professionals.
All ready to go!
Waiting for the pacer car to leave so he can follow!
The experience was so amazing to watch! At the speeds these cars go they get around this track with in like 30 - 40 seconds. The whole driving experience goes by really fast.
We told my dad that if we wanted to upgrade then just go ahead and do it. We were all super excited when he decided to do just that. He said we was a lot more confident and comfortable through those 10 laps, plus he got to go a little bit faster!
Its very interesting to see them take the steering wheel out and then watch my dad climb out. He did it like a pro!
We all rushed over to him to hear what he had to say. He had the biggest smile on his face. He LOVED it!!! This was the ULTIMATE gift and we each enjoyed every minute of it with my dad!
Danny and Jacie!
The gang walking back to our cars!
Anytime Sofia was on Dawson's shoulders Scarlett had to get on Josh's. These two little girlies are just fun to watch interact with each other. Being only 4 months apart is a lot of fun!
Scarlett is my crazy child. She thinks she is so funny and does the weirdest things all the time. My mom took this picture when she was sitting by Scarlett.
My over all feeling of this day was just so fun! I am so happy for my dad that he got to do this. I am so glad we each got to be there and be apart of the thrill. Seeing the pure joy and happiness on his face was priceless. Not sure that next christmas anyone will get such an amazing gift, but maybe some day!

Viva Las Vegas Part 1: Dinner, Birthday, Race Track

Any one that knows me really well knows I DO NOT love casinos, the smell of smoke, giant crowds of people, pictures of naked ladies on the ground, waiting forever to eat a meal, and just being around so much garbage.
Knowing this about me...you might ask yourself 'why in the world would you take your family and go to Las Vegas for a long weekend?'
The answer to that question is...
1. It was my birthday weekend
2. My Dad, Mom, Stef, Dawson, Sofia, Jared, Ashley, Ada, Josh, Danny, and Jacie all came to Las Vegas also which meant we were ALL together as a family.
3. I guess besides the weekend being all about me we got to watch my Dad experience a once in a life time event that he has always wanted to do. (more info to come about that soon)
4. Watched brother Josh do a ride along in a race car on the tracks in Las Vegas.
Most of us got there Friday. We went to dinner that night at some mexican restaurant. It was small and in an interesting neighborhood, but we walked to it anyways. The place at a disco ball going and our table was right under it. We luckily didn't have to deal with that for too long they turned it off so we could enjoy our dinner. Dinner was fun and entertaining. The kids of course only lasted for so long before they were acting a little crazy.

Adorable Scarlett

We finished our dinner and headed back to our hotel. We all gathered into one room and celebrated Mal's birthday!
Mal got a camera, willow tree figure, and a barbie car. (the barbie car is an inside joke in the family) [Mal has always wanted a hot wheels convertible barbie car, but never got one cause they were to much money. Mal's mom thought she meant a little convertible barbie car so she bought one for her for her birthday this year]. It was funny!
[FYI: mom I have a picture from christmas as a kid holding a barbie car like this but 2 or 3 times this length]
The rest of the night we just hung out and chatted and watched tv.
Josh building a lego toy for Payton from Uncle Jared
Payton playing the lego game with Papa and Grandma
Danny and Jacie just relaxing!
The kids loved playing with their glow sticks!
They kept stick fighting with them.
Once we were all kind of done and it was getting late the men all took off and went to check out the Pawn Shop that they show on TV. Josh loves watching that show! Unfortunately even though they say open 24 hours they just have a window that you can go to during the night, so they were all kind of bummed that they couldn't go in. They originally went super late because they figured there wouldn't be a long line like there is during the day! Oh well at least it was an adventure for them and they had fun!
Like I said earlier in my post my brother Josh got to do a ride along in a race car.
Josh all ready for his ride along
Josh climbing into the car getting ready for his awesome experience.
There they go! He got to do 3 laps. I can't remember the top speed they got up to but I want say like 160-180 mph.
Josh getting out of the car. He loved it! Said it was so fun!!! I don't think he will ever forget this experience.
Stay tuned for Part 2 of Las Vegas!

New Years Eve 2011

This year we spent New Years eve with our friends the Toutai's. We ate tons of food, played some games, watch the ball drop, made lots of loud noise, and enjoyed each others company. It was a fun way to start off the new year!
A game that we played with the kids was "Don't eat Pete". This game is played by having a paper with the numbers 1-9 each in their own box. Then you put a piece of candy on each square. You send one kid out of the room and the rest of the kids quietly pick one number and call that number "Pete". The kid comes back from the other room and slowly picks up a candy and eats it one at a time. The rest of us watch with excitement and when we see the kid reach for the number that is "Pete" you quickly yell very loudly "DON"T EAT PETE".
Payton has played this game many times with his cousins so he loves it and thinks its the funniest thing ever. Mapuana and Mom were very unsure about this. We were able to convince Mapuana to come and try it.
It was very fun to watch the excitement on their faces. Even us parents got to play with them.
Mo wasn't into the game so he just watched from afar!
Right before the new year came we got out our hates, blowers, and poppers.
Mo and Payton showing us how loud they can blow their blowers!
Viliami is just so adorable!!!! He enjoyed the new years party as much as the rest of us. This pictures shows that for sure!
Scarlett didn't quite make it to midnight. She was too tired! She crashed on the couch and didn't even budge from all the noise we made!
I am the luckiest girl in the world. I have the best husband and kids ever. We had a great new years eve! Looking forward to all the many wonderful this the new year will bring for me and my family!
